Wellington Blaze faced Central Hinds in the 22nd match of the Women's Super Smash 2023-24 on Saturday, January 13, at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. The match ended in a tie and both teams shared two points each.

Wellington Blaze are still at the top of the table with five wins in eight matches and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.783. Central Hinds have jumped to second place from third and have won three out of eight matches, amassing 18 points. They have a Net Run Rate of -0.106 and trail the league leaders by six points.

Otago Sparks are now ranked third and have won four out of seven matches. They have 16 points from seven matches with a Net Run Rate of -0.268. Canterbury Magicians are still the fourth-ranked team in the points table, with 12 points and a Net Run Rate of 0.250. They have won two out of eight matches.

Northern Brave Women and Auckland Hearts are in the last two places with two and one win, respectively. The Brave have 10 points from six games with a Net Run Rate of -0.035, while Auckland have eight points from seven matches with a Net Run Rate of -0.912.


Amelia Kerr's five-wicket haul steals the show

Wellington won the toss against Central Hinds and elected to bat. Amelia Kerr and Georgia Plimmer played a crucial role for the team once again after they lost two quick wickets. Plimmer scored 41 runs off 37 deliveries, while Kerr made 26 runs off 33 deliveries.

Wellington posted a total of 109 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Rosemary Mair was the pick of the bowlers for Central Hinds and took two wickets for 19 runs. The Hinds had a decent start to their chase as Hollie Armitage and Georgia Atkinson added 34 runs for the first wicket. Armitage departed after scoring 33 runs off 28 deliveries and was the only batter who made more than 17 runs in the second innings.

Central Hinds were bundled out for 109 runs in 19 overs and the match ended in a tie. Kerr shined with the ball as well and took her second fifer this season while giving away just 13 runs in four overs. Xara Jetly and Leigh Kasperek picked two wickets each.
