West Indies were up against South Africa in the third match of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 at the Dubai International Stadium on Friday, October 4.

South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt made a bold decision to field first in Dubai's scorching heat and against an explosive West Indian side. The move paid off for the Proteas as they held the Windies to 118 for six.

Nonkululeko Mlaba returned impressive figures of four for 29. The experienced Marizanne Kapp was equally brilliant as she took the important wickets of Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin. Stafanie Taylor top-scored for the West Indies with 44* (41).

The South Africa openers came out with a mission to not give anything away to the Windies bowlers. Laura Wolvaardt led from the front with an impressive 59* (55) with seven boundaries to her name. Her partner, Tazmin Brits, also hardly put any foot wrong on her way to scoring 57* (52) with six boundaries. South Africa clinched a convincing 10-wicket win with 13 balls remaining.

An impressive batting performance by South Africa openers Laura Wolvaardt (59* off 55) and Tazmin Brits (57* off 52) places them in the top two spots in the list of most runs.

Sarah Bryce (49) dropped down two spots to third place. Stafanie Taylor, with her unbeaten knock of 44 runs, holds the fourth spot and is followed by Sobhana Mostary (36) in fifth.

Fatima Sana played a brilliant 30 (20) knock yesterday and is sixth on the list. Shathi Rani (29), Nida Dar (23), Nishshanka Silva (22), and Rajapaksha Gunarathne (20) complete the leaderboard.

South African Nonkululeko Mlaba took over the top spot for most wickets after her impressive four-wicket haul against the West Indies. Saskia Horley, Sadia Iqbal, Chamari Athapaththu, Sugandika Kumari, and Udeshika Prabodhani have three wickets each to their name and are closely placed down to sixth.

Following them are five others with two wickets each, namely Fatima Sana, Marizanne Kapp, Nashra Sandhu, Ritu Moni, and Omaima Sohail.
