9 players who scored a hundred on Test debut, but a duck on ODI debut

To score a hundred on debut is immensely satisfying, while scoring a duck on debut is equally disappointing. And there are some players who have tasted both feelings in their careers.

Here, we present to you 9 batsmen who made a hundred on their Test debut and didn't trouble the scorers in their ODI debut.

1. Jimmy Neesham (New Zealand)

James Neesham, better known by his nickname 'Jimmy', scored an unbeaten 137 in the second innings of the second Test against India at Wellington in February 2014. He made a 35-ball 33 in the first innings as well.

However, he had a forgettable debut in ODIs. His first match was against South Africa at Paarl on Jan 19, 2013. He was trapped LBW by Ryan Mclaren for a duck.

2. Kane Williamson (New Zealand)

Kane Williamson scored a patient 131 off 299 balls against India at Ahmedabad in November 2010 in his Test debut.

The New Zealand skipper made his ODI debut on Aug 10, 2010 against Sri Lanka at Dambulla. Although he faced 9 balls, he couldn't add any run.

3. Suresh Raina (India)

Suresh Raina made his Test debut against Sri Lanka at Colombo. He scored a fine 120 including 12 fours and 2 sixes. Coming in at 241-4, he stitched together a 256-run partnership with Sachin Tendulkar.

However, Raina's ODI debut only lasted two balls. He was trapped LBW by Muttiah Muralitharan back in 2005.

4. Fawad Alam (Pakistan)

Fawad Alam made his Test debut against Sri Lanka at Colombo in July 2009. Though he could only score 16 in the first innings, he made an excellent 168 in the second.

He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka at Abu Dhabi on May 22, 2007. He was out for a golden duck, caught and bowled by Dilhara Fernando.

5. Jonathan Trott (England)

Trott made his Test debut against Australia at London in August 2009. He scored 41 in the first innings and in the second, he made 119. He stayed at the crease for 331 minutes and hit 12 boundaries.

He made his ODI debut in the same week, on August 27 against Ireland, only to manage a 3-ball duck.

6. Mathew Sinclair (New Zealand)

Mathew Sinclair made his Test debut against West Indies at Wellington in December 1999. He smashed a wonderful 214 which included 22 fours. Because of his heroics, New Zealand won the match by an innings and 105 runs and he was adjudged the Player of the match.

Sinclair made his ODI debut on February 26, 2000, against Australia at Christchurch. He couldn't trouble the scorers and was out on the first ball.

7. Dave Houghton (Zimbabwe)

Dave Houghton captained Zimbabwe in their inaugural Test in October 1992. He made a 322-ball 121 in the first innings and scored an unbeaten 41 in the second.

Things were not as rosy for him on his ODI debut. He was out for a golden duck against Australia at Nottingham on June 9, 1983.

8. Andrew Hudson (South Africa)

Andrew Hudson made his Test debut against West Indies at Bridgetown, in April 1992. In the first innings, he scored a magnificent 163 while in the second innings he made a duck. Although South Africa lost the match by 52 runs, Hudson was named Man of the Match along with Curtly Ambrose (West Indies).

Hudson made his debut in ODIs against India at Kolkata on November 10, 1991. He could bat for three balls before being caught by Kiran More off the bowling of Kapil Dev.

9. Salim Malik (Pakistan)

Salim Malik made his Test debut against Sri Lanka at Karachi in March 1982. In the first innings he could score only 12, but he bounced back in the second innings by scoring an unbeaten 100 off 191 balls.

Malik made his ODI debut against West Indies at Sydney on January 12, 1982. He was bowled on the very first ball by Joel Garner.
