Former Indian cricket team director Ravi Shastri is set to re-apply for the national coaching job to the BCCI. Along with Shastri, his support staff – which consists of batting coach Sanjay Bangar, bowling coach Bharath Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar, will also apply for their respective roles. As reported by PTI, a senior BCCI official confirmed the news that all the four will send their applications shortly.

"All the three coaches (Arun, Bangar, Sridhar) along with Shastri are applying as they have got positive feelers from the top brass of the BCCI. Since there will be a format of application that each applicant will have to follow, they are waiting for the advertisement to be published," the BCCI official told PTI.

The contracts of Shastri, Bangar and Arun were not renewed after their expiry, that is after the ICC World T20 2016. Later, Bangar was named the interim head coach of the Indian team which is set to tour Zimbabwe in the month of June.

The Men in Blue are set to play three One Day Internationals and three T20I’s on their tour to the African country. The Kings XI Punjab head coach will be assisted by Abhay Sharma, who had stints with India A team as a fielding coach in the past and will now work as the fielding coach for the senior team.

Reportedly, the support staff met with BCCI President Anurag Thakur, before his appointment at the helm of India’s cricket governing body, in New Delhi and the discussions were termed as ‘positive’.

"The BCCI president had made it clear that anyone with proper credentials can apply. Also Thakur has praised the work done by 'Team Shastri' in the last 18 months. The young team has enjoyed a fair bit of success overseas. It is only fair that they get equal chance like other applicants," PTI’s source said.

It(18 months with team India) has been the most memorable phase of my life: Shastri

Last week, Shastri termed his stint as the Indian team’s director the best 18 months of his life. Under his tutelage, the Men in Blue won an ODI series in England, whitewashed Australia down under in a three-match T20 series and also defeated Sri Lanka in their own backyard in a test series.

“I have no doubt in my mind that these are the best 18 months that I have spent during my association with Indian cricket as a player and then as a Team Director. It has been the most memorable phase of my life if I just look back at what we achieved as a team during this phase. Credit to the boys for making it special," Shastri said.

According to reports in The Hindu, BCCI is yet to put up the advertisement inviting applications for the post of head coach and the coaching staff on its official website.
