Ravindra Jadeja thinks limited-overs cricket doesn't affect Test performance

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja believes that the current set of international cricketers can adapt themselves quickly to the multiple formats of the game and that the likes of one-day internationals and T20 cricket don't really affect their test performance.

After yesterday’s match against Rising Pune Supergiants, when the 27-year-old was asked about the impact of limited-overs cricket on the prolonged format of the sport, he replied, “Players adapt to the situation very quickly and I don’t think there would be any negative impact on players because of limited-overs cricket.”

Jadeja is a crucial member of the Suresh Raina-led Gujarat Lions squad in the ongoing Indian Premier League. After defeating Kings XI Punjab in their opening match of the tournament, the Rajkot-based franchise has thrashed MS Dhoni’s Rising Pune Supergiants by 7 wickets to move to the top of the table.

The Lions had to chase down a formidable target of 164 in their allotted 20 overs. RPS’ Faf du Plessis and Kevin Pieterson scored 69 and 37 respectively to provide their bowlers with a decent target to defend.

However, Gujarat’s opener-duo, Aaron Finch and Brendon McCullum’s 85 runs partnership in just 8.3 overs swept the match away from Pune’s hands. Suresh Raina’s men were too good to for the RPS bowling line-up as GL registered a 7-wicket victory over Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s side with a couple of overs to spare.

Although Aaron Finch, thanks to his 36-ball 50, was adjusted as the Player of the Match, Ravindra Jadeja, himself was a big hit with the ball.

The 27-year-old picked up a couple of wickets including that of Steven Smith in his allotted four overs. Also, he gave away just 18 runs to finish with an outstanding economy rate of 4.50 runs per over.

During a post-match interview, Ravindra Jadeja said, “Finch and McCullum are power-hitters and they gave us a flying start by adding 85 runs in less than nine overs that eased the pressure on the middle-order batsmen.”

“After getting a flying start from the openers, there was no need to go for big shots,” he added.
