Reports: Shashank Manohar likely to be next BCCI chief

The wait for the appointment of new Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President may get over soon as sources according to the IBNLive reported Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Sharad Pawar and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley - leaders of the two opposing BCCI factions - have arrived at a consensus over the name of Shashank Manohar as the new board president.

After the sudden demise of chief Jagmohan Dalmiya, the top vacant place of the richest cricket board in the world is the most discussed topic across the cricket fraternity.

The important need of the hour is to find a clean candidate to run the BCCI after the incidents like 2013 spot-fixing and later the suspension of two Indian Premier League teams in betting scandal have tainted the board name.

IBNLive further reported that BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur met Jaitley along with Manohar and Ajay Shirke, who had resigned from the post in protest after N Srinivasan refused to step down following the arrest of his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan in the IPL betting and spot-fixing case.

Prior to this, Srinivasan met Pawar in Nagpur and it was reported in the news that the MCA's president will be receiving the backing of Srinivasan for the President post of BCCI.

Manohar has served as the 29th President of the BCCI from 2008 to 2011. As a cricket administrator, he is known for his impeccable track record & integrity in cricketing circles, justifying the predicate ‘Mr.Clean' attributed to him. He is often credited as the 'best president BCCI ever had'. Under his presidency, India regained the World Cup title after a gap of 28 years.

When Srinivasan was named in the Mudgal Committee report along his nephew Gurunath Meiyappan during the spot-fixing scandal, Manohar was the first one to directly oppose the then President Srinivasan.
