Shaharyar Khan requests BCCI to host an India-Pakistan series in 2014

India v Pakistan: Group A - ICC Champions Trophy

Shahryar Khan, the former Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) chief and Pakistan Prime Minister Navaz Sharif’s special envoy, has reached out to BCCI president N. Srinivasan, asking the Indian board to host Pakistan for a cricket series in 2014.

According to the Times Of India, Khan made the request on Tuesday for Pakistan to play its ‘home series’ against India in India since teams are unwilling to travel to Pakistan due to security reasons. The BCCI has not responded in the affirmative or rejected the request yet but has assured Pakistan that they would consider the request at an appropriate time.

“It was more of an informal discussion between the two counterparts. Nothing was finalized in the meeting but BCCI has taken a note of it,” a source told TOI.

Earlier this year, the BCCI had considered hosting a bilateral series involving Pakistan. When India’s tour of South Africa seemed to be clouded by all sorts of disagreements over itineraries, the BCCI had considered hosting one of Pakistan or Sri Lanka for a home series against India.

The BCCI however will require clearance from the Centre before taking any decision on a series against Pakistan.
