You must be pretty elated with the selection…

Frankly, I am on cloud 9. I was expecting it. The feeling is yet to sink in. It’s the best moment of my life.

Whom would you give the credit for your success?

My family has been very supportive ever since I took the game seriously. All the credit goes to them. I think it’s very important to have your family backing you up as it motivates you a lot.

You might get to make your debut against Pakistan. Are you nervous, or under any pressure?

Not really. A little pressure is good I think, and it will be there when you are playing at the international level. On the contrary, I am charged up. I have been watching India vs Pakistan since I was a kid, and used to enjoy them so much. Now, to be actually playing against them would be a different thrilling experience.

How much has the IPL helped you improve as a cricketer?

The IPL is a great platform for youngsters, and it has benefitted me too.Playing alongside international players gives you a boost and is an encouragement. It also helps you earn a name. I learnt a lot of things from Wasim Bhai, who I consider a legendary bowler. I learnt to making the good use of the seam and yorkers, and how to bowl in the right areas.

How helpful has the domestic circuit been?

Playing for Bengal has been great. Undoubtedly, it is one of the best cricket teams in India and sharing the dressing room with players like Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Dada, Wriddhiman, Dinda and others is great. It’s because I have been consistently performing in the domestic circuit that now I have been picked for the national side.

You suffered from some injuries too. Did you lose hope at any point of time?

I suffered from a side strain and that’s why had to miss the Champions League. I knew I had to recover as soon as possible, because it wasn’t easy sitting back and see opportunities pass by. I am a man with a strong will, and I don’t lose hope.
