Australian spin great Shane Warne said that the delivery that removed English batsman Mike Gatting at Old Trafford in 1993, which was termed the ‘Ball of the Century’, was just pure luck.

The ball from Warne pitched well outside leg stump but took a big turn to finally go on and hit the top of the off stump, leaving everyone including Gatting stunned. However, Warne, who has 708 Test wickets to his name, does not think the delivery was anything special reported Daily Mail.

He even went on to term the delivery as a ‘fluke’.

Talking about the delivery to the Daily Telegraph Warne said “ When you look at the footage you can see Ian Healy going miles down the leg side. It was a fluke.”

Warne also added that the delivery happened because everything fall in the right place.

“I have bowled balls that have spun more and not take a wicket and balls that have not spun and taken wickets. But on that day everything came together,” the Australian said.
