Manohar replaces the late Dalmiya as BCCI President

The Vidarbha-based lawyer Shashank Manohar has been elected as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the second time, reports NDTV.

Former president Manohar was the sole candidate to be elected for the top post of the BCCI, which was fallen vacant with the demise of Jagmohan Dalmiya. He was announced as the President in the Special General Meeting which was held in Mumbai today.

BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said that the board will continue with the reforms under new President Mr Manohar which was taken place under Dalmiya's leadership.

"After the sad demise of Mr Dalmiya. It was important to continue the reforms taken place in last six months. We have seen the previous tenure of Manohar, where his work has been appreciated by everyone and we believe under his leadership BCCI will continue with the reforms which has taken place under Dalmiya's leadership," Thakur said.

Manohar has served as the 29th President of the BCCI from 2008 to 2011. As a cricket administrator, he is known for his impeccable track record & integrity in cricketing circles, justifying the predicate ‘Mr.Clean' attributed to him. He is often credited as the 'best president BCCI ever had'. Under his presidency, India regained the World Cup title after a gap of 28 years.

He is the son of former Advocate General of Maharashtra VR Manohar. When Srinivasan was named in the Mudgal Committee report along his nephew Gurunath Meiyappan during the spot-fixing scandal, Manohar was the first one to directly oppose the then President Srinivasan.
