Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma: closing India's opening woes

Shikhar Dhawan can do no wrong at the moment. Having been selected in national squad at the expense of out of form openers, Dhawan has impressed one and all with his willow more often than one. No doubt he got rewarded in team very late in spite of proving his consistency over the past two years in domestic and IPL. But Dhawan has made the most of it.

Since his debut against Australia, he has hit an awesome purple patch. He has continued his fine form into the Champions trophy with his back to back centuries against the quality bowling attacks of South Africa and West Indies. Dhawan was like a man possessed as the opponent team bore the brunt of his ferocious onslaught on their bowlers.

There is a royal swagger in the way he walks. Shikhar Dhawan is a rare breed of batsmen who believes in the fearless brand of cricket. His approach is pre-planned as he do not offer aerial shots in the beginning and yet scores a run a ball. In the match against West Indies, his first six came when he was in the so-called nervous 90s. This is something which only a few batsmen like Sehwag would do.

On the other hand, it was good to see Rohit Sharma among runs. As an opener Rohit is doing much better than what he does playing in middle order. It was a good move by the captain to promote him up the order as Rohit is not any pinch hitter to bat in lower order. It is well known how threatening he can be once he is well set! This is really a strong platform by the openers. This is what the Indian team has been missing for the past two years. The left and right hand combination of Dhawan and Rohit looks fantastic. I hope they continue their fine form in future as well.
