India’s swashbuckling opener, Shikhar Dhawan, feels that he has matured as a batsman over the last few months.

He recently scored 248 runs for India A in a 50-over match, which the second highest score in limited overs first-class cricket. The highest first class score in limited overs was scored by Alistair Brown for Surrey against Glamorgan at the Ova back in 2002.

The left-hander from Delhi said: “On many occasions, I dreamt of scoring a double hundred in one-day cricket. I was that I could score a double century, which was previously made by Sachin bhai(Tendulkar), and Viru bhai(Virender Sehwag) for India.”

Dhawan’s innings for India A was a match winning knock consisting of 30 boundaries and he cleared the fence 7 times during his 150-ball stay at the crease.

“Till a few months back, I was an ordinary cricketer, playing domestic cricket. I had lots of time for myself. But now I have become sort of a celebrity….I like it, I always wanted to be a good cricketer and score lots of runs.” He added.

Dhawan also stated that he is confident that India will win in the upcoming tour of South Africa.

“We have a good young team. Our fielding is very impressive. Given our batting and bowling strength, I see no reason why India cannot win the series there.”
