Sri Lankan batsman, Kaushal Silva has been taken to the hospital after having suffered a head injury while fielding at short leg during a practice match at Pallekele, Kandy. Kaushal had to be airlifted from the ground to a hospital in Colombo. Reports from the hospital suggested that Silva was out of danger. However, he will be continued to be monitored by the hospital.

“Kaushal was fielding at short leg when he got hit. [Dinesh Chandimal] swept right onto the back of Kaushal's head. He did take evasive action, but still the ball hit him,” team manager Charith Senanayake said.

The team manager said that Silva was dazed for a few moments after being hit on the head and showed signs of a concussion. Silva was wearing the new type of helmets, which had extra padding, that were being used after Phillip Hughes’ death.

The incident occurred at around 3:30 pm and the batsman was taken to a hospital in Kandy. Following a CAT scan there, Silva was immediately taken to a hospital in Colombo.

Silva was playing a two-day practice match which was in preparation for Sri Lanka's tour of England that is scheduled to start at Leeds on May 19. On the first day of the match, Silva had scored a hundred and it looked like he would make it to the squad for the Test series in England.

In 24 Test matches for Sri Lanka, Silva has scored 1404 runs at an average of 31.90. Silva has two hundreds and nine fifties to his name.
