Voges and Marsh were involved in a record-breaking partnership

Despite an unbeaten 94 by Darren Bravo, West Indies are staring at the possibility of an innings defeat to Australia in the first Test in Hobart.

The visitors ended day two on 207/6 in reply to Australia’s 583/4 declared. They still need 176 runs to avoid the follow-on and with just four wickets in hand, an innings defeat looks a likely prospect.

Around the globe, it is the 3rd quickest partnership of 300 or more, among 92 such partnerships. The best belongs to a 410-run partnership between Sehwag and Dravid vs Pakistan. At the end of last day’s play, the run rate was 4.35 for this partnership.

15.23 – The opening average for West Indies in this year- which is the lowest among all the teams. In 17 innings this year, West Indian openers have made 259 runs for 1st wicket with a highest of 35. They are the only team to have 0 fifty plus opening stand this year.

1935 – The last and only time when West Indies had a lower 1st wicket average in a single calendar than 15.23 in 2015. In 1935, West Indain openers made 83 runs for 1st wicket with a highest of 32.

1946 – The last and only the second time before today when any Australian pair has put on more than 400 runs for any wicket. On 18 Aug 1934, Bradman and Ponsford had made 451 runs against England at Oval while Sid Barnes and Bradman made 405 against England on 13 Dec 1946 at Sydney.

1957 – Last and only time before today that any pair in the Test history have collected more than 400 runs for a partnership against West Indies. Before 449 by Voges and Marsh, Englishmen Peter May and Colin Cowdrey had gathered 411 runs on 30 May 1957 at Birmingham.
