England’s Keaton Jennings joined an illustrious list of cricketers on Thursday after making a century on Test debut against India during the fourth Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Roped in to replace Haseeb Hameed at the top of the order, the 24-year-old left-hander compiled a fine century on Test debut, despite a few jitters at the start of his innings and reached the mark just before Tea on the opening day.
Jennings became the 14th overseas batsman to achieve the landmark and joined some very fine names on the list, that comprises his Test captain on debut Alastair Cook, who made his debut Test ton also against India at Nagpur in 2006.
Incidentally, Jennings is only the second Englishman after Bryan Valentine to notch up a century on Test debut in Mumbai.Valentine scored his hundred in 1933 and was the first Englishman to score a debut ton against India.
Others in the list include the likes of Animul Islam, who made a century in Bangladesh’s first ever Test against India in 2000, Kane Williamson, who made a hundred in the Blackcaps’ 2010 tour to India etc.

The last overseas batsman to achieve the feat was James Neesham, who made a ton against the same opposition in Auckland in 2014.
Jennings was dropped early on in his innings by Karun Nair and he has certainly made most of his reprieve. At Tea on the opening day, the visitors found themselves at 196 for 2 with Jennings unbeaten on 103 and Moeen Ali not out on 25.
