Ever since the Supreme Court came up with the proposal of Sunil Gavaskar becoming the interim BCCI chief, the whole of India has been wondering about how did the name of the legendary batsman cropped up out of nowhere.

Acoording to NDTV, the way it all unfolded was quite extraordinary. During the hearing, senior counsel Harish Salve, while accusing Mahendra Singh Dhoni of having given a false statement to the Mukul Mudgal probe panel, added the names of several players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid who had testified before the panel.

Suddenly, Justice A K Patnaik asked, “Why was Mr Sunil Gavaskar left out? What about Mr Gavaskar? Anyway, where is he? Is he okay, is he fit?

Salve, in reply to this query by Patnaik, said: “Yes lordship, he is okay and very fit. I think he is doing commentary nowadays, but if chair wants to know, I can find out.”

After this answer by Salve, Justice A K Patnaik made a note of something. Following which the suggestion of making Gavaskar or another respected cricketer as a replacement for N Srinivasan was arrived at.
