Ambati Rayudu handed two-match suspension by BCCI

Hyderabad captain Ambati Rayudu has been handed a two-match suspension by the BCCI for breaching its Code of Conduct during the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali game between Hyderabad and Karnataka.

Controversy had engulfed the game after confusion regarding a boundary during Karnataka's innings when two runs were signaled by the on-field umpire even though the fielder had touched the boundary ropes while fielding. Two runs were later added to Karnataka's total, which eventually was the difference between the two sides at the end of the game.

After the end of the match, Rayudu stayed put at the ground with his parents, demanding a super over to decide the outcome.

"At the end, we went and asked to start the Super Over. That is exactly our point of contention. We never even thought of stopping the second match, that has got nothing to do with us. We were insisting that our match was not complete, we still have to play the Super Over. That is exactly why we went to the middle, we were actually going to warm up then", he had said.

Due to Rayudu's protest, the subsequent match between Kerala and Andhra had to be truncated to 13-overs a side.

A BCCI press release read as follows: "Mr Rayudu is barred from participating in the first two matches for Hyderabad in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Mr Rayudu pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by BCCI and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Mr Abhijit Deshmukh, Mr Ulhas Vithalrao Gandhe, and third umpire Mr Anil Dandekar".
