Former Australia skipper Steve Waugh’s son Austin was part of the team’s U-19 World Cup squad in 2018, which finished runner-up to India. A right-handed batsman and medium pace bowler, Austin made smooth progress for New South Wales from the Under-15 to the Under-19 side.

He grabbed the limelight with his 5/27 against Western Australia in the semi-finals of the national U19 championship. He was part of the Australia U19 side that took on Sri Lanka in Hobart, where he contributed with both bat and ball. This was followed by his selection for the U-19 World Cup.

Earlier, Austin impressed in the Under-17 National Championships in 2016, scoring an unbeaten century in the final of the tournament - in which he scored 372 runs at an average of 74.4 overall. He is also a brilliant fielder, as can be seen in the video below.

In January 2019, Austin was named among the substitute fielders for Australia in the fourth and final Test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground - the same venue where his father bid goodbye to the game in 2004.

Speaking of Steve, apart from leading Australia to victory from a seemingly-hopeless situation in the 1999 World Cup, he was also renowned as a great fighter with the bat. His grit was best epitomized by his famous century at The Oval in 2001, batting literally on one leg.

Steve was also in charge when Australia won a record 16 Test matches in a row.

Undoubtedly, Austin has a tough act to follow.
