The strongest World XI team that should face West Indies

ICC World Twenty20 India 2016: Final - England v West Indies
The World T20 champions

The reigning World T20 champions, West Indies, are scheduled to play a one-off Twenty20 International against a World XI team at the Lord's Cricket Ground in England on 31 May 2018, to raise funds for stadiums in Anguilla and Dominica that were damaged by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria in September 2017.

The ICC have announced that England's limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan will captain the World XI team. The ICC also announced that the likes of Shahid Afridi, Thisara Perera, Shakib Al Hasan, Shoaib Malik, Tamim Iqbal and Rashid Khan will be a part of the World XI squad.

The World XI team should look like an invincible team and a few names that the ICC have named don't deserve to be in the World XI side.

Let us take a look at how the World XI side that will be taking on West Indies should look like.

Openers - Colin Munro and Virat Kohli (c)

ICC World Twenty20 India 2016: Semi-Final: West Indies v India
Virat Kohli

Scoring one century in the T20I format is a big achievement as a lot of modern-day greats are yet to reach the three-figure mark in the format. But, Colin Munro alone has managed to score not one, not two, but three T20I centuries in his brief career.

He has been a revelation at the top of the order ever since he was asked to open for the Blackcaps. Munro is someone who walks into any T20 team with ease and the World XI should have him at the top of the order.

Opening the batting with Munro should be Indian batsman Virat Kohli, who can also be given the captaincy reigns. Though Kohli has opened for India in T20I cricket just once, he is a regular at the top of the order for his IPL side Royal Challengers Bangalore and has tasted a lot of success as an opening batsman for the franchise.

He will also be the perfect foil for Munro as Kohli can anchor the innings allowing Munro to go after the bowlers and can accelerate when needed.

Other players considered: Chris Lynn, Alex Hales, Kane Williamson

Middle order - AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell

Australia v England - T20 Game 1
Glenn Maxwell

Along with Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers is one of the modern-day greats in limited-overs cricket. A World XI side cannot be picked without a player like AB de Villiers in it. Even though his T20 international numbers are nowhere close to his T20 numbers, he is still a force to reckon with as he has proved his class time and time again for both South Africa and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.

Glenn Maxwell is easily one of the most dangerous players going around at the moment as he is someone who is a complete package in T20s. He has the ability to turn the game in a matter of balls with the bat, can bowl a couple of overs if needed and is a livewire on the field.

Other players considered: David Miller, Shoaib Malik, Aaron Finch and Eoin Morgan

All-rounders and wicketkeeper - Jos Buttler, Shakib Al Hasan and Jofra Archer

BBL - Hurricanes v Strikers
Jofra Archer

Without a doubt, Jos Buttler is arguably the best wicketkeeper-batsman who bats in the middle order in limited-overs cricket. So, he should get into the side as the wicketkeeper.

Shakib Al Hasan has been the backbone of Bangladesh cricket for a decade now as the all-rounder has won a lot of matches for his team with both bat and ball. The southpaw is easily the best spin-bowling all-rounder in the format, and deservedly, he has been picked by the ICC to feature for the World XI side.

With Ben Stokes set to feature in the Test series against Pakistan, it is unlikely that he will be able to take part in the Windies vs World XI clash on May 31 as the second Test between England and Pakistan gets underway on June 1.

So, Jofra Archer should be the fast bowling all-rounder in the World XI side. Some might argue that he is eligible to play for West Indies but he is unlikely to play for the Caribbean men as he is trying to get English citizenship and represent the Poms.

Jofra adds a lot of value to any T20 side as he is a world-class bowler who has all the variations in his sleeve and adding to that, he is a handy batsman and an electrifying fielder.

Other players considered for the wicket-keeper's spot: MS Dhoni and Quinton de Kock

Other players considered for the all-rounders' spot: Mohammad Nabi, Imad Wasim, Hardik Pandya, Chris Morris and Mitchell Santner

Spinner - Rashid Khan

BBL - Strikers v Heat
Rashid Khan

Talking about the best spinners in the T20 format, there is no need to look beyond Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan. The 19-year-old is easily the best bowler in the format and as a result of his consistency, he holds the number 1 rankings in the ICC T20 bowlers chart.

The only one who can come close to the Afghan leggie is Pakistan leg-spinner, Shadab Khan. With Shadab included in the Pakistan squad for the Test series against England, it makes the route clear for Rashid to spearhead the spin attack.

The ICC has recognised the Rashid's talent and has already named him in the World XI squad.

Other players considered: Ish Sodhi, Yuzvendra Chahal and Imran Tahir.

Fast bowlers - Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Andrew Tye

India v South Africa - ICC Champions Trophy
Jasprit Bumrah

With Mitchell Starc ruled out of injury and Hassan set to feature in the England-Pakistan Test series, Jasprit Bumrah should be the first name in the World XI bowling line-up. Bumrah is a sensational T20 bowler who can single-handedly win matches for his team.

Partnering Bumrah should be his Indian teammate Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who is lethal with the new ball and at the death. Bumrah and Bhuvi have won a lot of matches for India and the World XI side can bank on the pace duo to deliver for them.

Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye should complete the fast-bowling line-up and he is someone who can complement both Bhuvi and Bumrah very well. Just like the other two, Tye is someone who can be reliable with the new ball and deadly in the death overs.

A fast bowling unit of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Jofra Archer and Andrew Tye can trouble any T20 side in the world.

Other players considered: Trent Boult, Billy Stanlake, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Plunkett and Chris Woakes.
