As young kids when we all started watching cricket ,we loved it whenever the ball was hit for a six or stumps went for a cartwheel.We loved those dynamic batsmen like gilchrist,jayasuriya and fiery bowlers like walsh,waqar,akram and so on.As we grew up we got to know the players in detail and still gilchrist was there in our hearts.
The next phase the Indian Australian rivalry made us hate australian players but we had at most respect for people like mcgrath,warne the waughs but there was this one player whom we all loved ,yeah Adam ‘Churchy’ Gilchrist.What made him special ? His batting style, his amazing glove work i say that would be only half the reason , the main one, his love for the game and true sportsmanship the walking incidents unlike any other australian who would be glued to the crease unless the umpire raises the finger. Those were the days in Star Cricket where we would get shows like Australia victorious and we would switch it on just to see if Glichrist was at his devastating best.

There were one of those few innings whenever he played ,made you jump off your seats and think ,gosh!!! how the heck did he do that ,thats impossible.He was a treat to watch ,you could watch him bat with ease and grace.Even when australia were in trouble he played his natural game and managed to bail them out ,batting with the tail.
Oh boy he loved playing the big matches didn’t he? The 99 world cup final ,was a good knock ,so was the 2003 final but the 2007 wc final was a treat to watch thrashing bowlers all around the park. As he himself says the best way to summarize batting is to whack the ball as hard as you can.He played all the formats in the same way and yet managed to be successful .
When it comes to ipl ,people may feel the new players winning the trophy or winning individual accolades make them stand out performers ,but playing under Gilchrist would be the best thing that can ever happen to them.They may not have a person like Sachin to guide them in terms of technique but they have Gilly to make them love the game, play with an hunger to win and sacrifice accompanied with humbleness and sportsmanship
Sometimes I feel sorry for the next generation where they are gonna miss players like the sachins,dravids,gilchrists and so on (THE GOLDEN ERA OF CRICKET) AND ADAM GILCHRIST thank you for whatever you did on the field ,you were a treat to watch .
