The name is not new to any cricket fan in the country. When Kapil's Devils lifted the World Cup in 1983, Indian cricket entered into a new path. Kapil Dev represented India in four World Cups between 1979 and 1992. During this span, he played 26 World Cup matches picking 28 wickets at a spectacular economy rate of 3.76.
Kapil, often viewed as one of the greatest all-rounders to play the game, had been the most vital player for the team prior to his retirement in 1994. He played 225 ODI matches for India and scored 3783 runs along 253 wickets.
He was a key part of the team both with bat and ball. The crucial contributions made by Kapil Dev to Indian cricket is still remembered by the fans. After retirement, he joined the national side as head coach in 1999 but had to resign after a few big losses.
