Video: Shane Watson bowled off leg spinner's full toss!

Australian all-rounder Shane Watson was once one of the most feared cricketers in the world as he could single-handedly destroy the opposition with his mighty hits with the bat and follow it up with his inswingers that had the best of batsmen in trouble on his day.

But as the 34-year-old stands on the twilight of his international career, having already bid adieu to the longer format of the game, Watson has been subjected to much ridicule, especially with his poor record in using the Decision Review System (DRS) attracting social media attention in the immediate aftermath of the announcement of his retirement from Test cricket.

Still hopeful of a run in the Australian ODI & T20 sides, Watson made his return to competitive cricket following the injury which curtailed his involvement in the recent ODI series against England, with his appearance New South Wales Blues against South Australia in the Matador BBQS One-Day Cup 2015. But what ensued today was one which Watson would like to forget as soon as possible.

Coming into bat at 2/73, Watson had the ideal opportunity to stake his claim for a spot in the national team and looked set to do just that as he raced to 12 with a handsome boundary off leg-spinner Adam Zampa. The 23-year-old seemed under pressure and bowled a juicy full-toss in the very next ball that the whole crowd expected Watson to give the deserved treatment.

Unfortunately for Watto, he bottom-edged the ball on to the stumps after stepping down the crease to leave the spectators and the cameraman, who was already eyeing the midwicket boundary as he was expecting a big one from Watson, equally bemused.

While the commentators responded with remarks like “I can’t believe that Shane Watson has missed it” and “It’s tough to explain what’s happened there. It’s a bizarre dismissal,” the Twitterati was incredibly harsh as they piled on the misery on Watson.
