Watch: Virat Kohli lashes out in post-match press conference

Chasing 287 to win on the final day of the second Test, India lost their final seven wickets before lunch, as South Africa won by 135 runs at Centurion.

With the win on Wednesday, Faf du Plessis & Co. took a 2-0 unassailable lead in the three-match series.

On the other hand, the majority of Virat Kohli's men did not seem to have learned from their mistakes in Cape Town, where they lost by 72 runs, as they failed to show any resistance and were completely undone by the Proteas.

Consequently, a frustrated Indian skipper lost his cool at a post-match interaction where a South African journalist questioned Kohli about his team selection.

Journalist: You talking about the team not coming together well, maybe has that been because of the changing of the selection? In all the Tests that you have been captain, you have changed your line up in almost every Test. And I think you would know that to win Test matches you also need a little bit of consistency or a lot of consistency and you guys have been lacking that part. What would you put that down to and how would you basically say that you guys will continue changing your team and expect a different result?

Kohli: How many Test matches have you (South Africa) won out of 30? How many have you won? 21 wins, two losses, how many draws?

Journalist: How many in India?

Kohli: Doesn’t matter wherever we are trying to do our best. I’m here to answer your questions not to fight with you.

The 29-year-old skipper even counter questioned an Indian journalist, who had asked him about his ideal playing XI.

Kohli said, "You tell me the best XI and we will play that. I mean the loss obviously hurts but you make one decision and back it. We certainly don't sit here and say 'oh, if you fail in one game, you are not fit to play at this level'. Didn't we ever lose in India? The reason why we have such a big squad is that we believe in their abilities. You can't pinpoint and say this is the best XI."

However, it was not the first time that Kohli hit the ceiling in the ongoing series, he was fined 25 percent of his match fee after he was found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third day’s play at Centurion on Monday.

Kohli continued to complain to umpire Michael Gough about the ball being affected by a damp outfield following a rain delay, before throwing the ball into the ground in an aggressive manner.

As far as team selection is concerned, coming into the game at Centurion, India made three changes to their playing XI.

KL Rahul replaced Shikhar Dhawan, Ishant Sharma came in for Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Parthiv Patel was included in place of wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, who was ruled out due to a strain.

As Kohli announced the team for the second Test at the toss, he received a lot of flak on social media for dropping in-form Bhuvneshwar Kumar and not picking Ajinkya Rahane ahead of KL Rahul.

The third and final Test will be played at the New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg from Wednesday, January 24.
