At last the IPL carnival is over. For a few of us, aged no more than 23 years, have to get acclimatised to our new syllabi in school or the new semester in college starting in June, but what about the boring office goers? What do they do now?
In fact, they would go back to what they used to do before the IPL – get back from office, have a chinwag with their wife/roommate, tune into a News channel, watch it for an hour or two and post some outrage on their Twitter/Facebook pages. A few would take a break at a pub en route from office, have a beer and then a chewing gum to get rid of the smell. However, my friends who work in IT wouldn’t even care to get back home until 10 even without much to do at work.
IPL has changed the whole situation. No outrage on social network after 8pm, husbands getting back home early and no more night shifts. Most homes even rescheduled their dinner to either before the match or between the innings.
But the 54 day long carnival is over now and all of us would definitely have the hangover of it for the next few days.
The first thing, get rid of is the channel that aired the IPL. Otherwise you might, accidentally tune into the same channel today again and get addicted to the stodgy Hindi serials that would be on air. If in case you get back home early and surf the channels on the TV, don’t stop at any channel showing ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’, or ‘Kabhi Alvida na kehna’ because that is not any different from soapy melodramas.
Secondly, stop thinking about the defeats of your favourite teams during the IPL. Some would advise spirituality to deal with it but once you close your eyes, you might be horrified by a devastating 110 meter DLF maximum by Chris Gayle.
Ideal solution – tune in to the West Indies vs England, the condition of West Indies would definitely make you feel better.
Third, cooking. Make Simon Katich, Australian and former Kings XI Punjab player, your role model. Katich, although being insensitive to smell, is a wonderful chef. Roll your fingers through the dough and try to bowl an off-spinner or a wrong one. But be careful not to switch hit the salt with pepper.
Lastly, work out. Think about Mathew Hayden or Puneet Issar (Duryodhan) and start working out. (Haven’t you guys realised the resemblance ?) Even here, be careful start off with comfortable weights, otherwise you might be clean bowled.
And if none of the above work out, then get back to paragraph one, watch political dramas and you’ll surely forget about IPL.
So, wish you All the best.
