Cycling: Argentina's Dotti has ban extended to 2015

Juan Pablo Dotti, a cyclist from Argentina, had his two-year doping ban extended to March of 2015 for competing while ineligible, the US Anti-Doping Agency announced on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old former Argentine national time trial champion tested positive for a banned anabolic agent and ampehtamines in a sample collected June 12, 2011, after the last stage of the three-day Tula Tough event.

Dotti accepted a two-year ban starting August 13, 2011, but only two months later, Dotti began competing in races sanctioned by the Argentina Cycling Union, according to the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

After hearing that Dotti was competing in his homeland, USADA investigated and found he had violated the terms of his punishment, allowing USADA to restart to two-year ban period.

As a result, Dotti’s two-year ban was restarted last March 10, the date of his last known race. In addition, Dotti has been disqualified and his results voided from every race in which he competed since the ban should have started in August of 2011.
