The OVO Energy Tour of Britain witnessed a huge accident after numerous riders crashed into a parked car, with one rider even breaking the windscreen. As a result of that, rider Brent Bookwalter could not continue the race. According to team doctor Dr Scott Major, "It looked like Brent hit the edge of the car coming out of the corner and then flew forward, and was lying near the passenger side door.

"He didn't go into the windshield, but he did hit his head and has a mild to moderate concussion, which is the biggest concern and we will continue to monitor him now he is out of the hospital," he said.

The doctor also revealed that the rider underwent X-ray scans and there were no serious concerns, so his injuries appear superficial at the moment.

The Tour of Britain is a race that takes place 'once in a lifetime' and it features the world's best cyclists riding through Nottinghamshire.

Bookwalter was disappointed to crash out at this stage but was glad that the injuries were not serious. He also said that he did not remember much of the crash but remembered hitting the car and then falling off the cycle. Soon, questions began to arise as to why the car was parked there in the first place, particularly on the exit of a blind corner.

A spokesperson said that the organizers were aware of the incident and were investigating it. The car that was parked in a disabled parking bay wasn’t able to be moved before the arrival of the race, and as per the procedures was flagged by one of the motorcycle marshals to alert riders to an obstacle in the road.

It was very fortunate that there were no serious injuries and thankful that Bookwalter will make a full recovery but one has to wonder why such an incident was even allowed to take place.
