We are now in the age of a completely oversaturated market of Battle Royale Games. We have Fortnite, PUBG, Call of Duty's Blackout, CS:GO's Danger Zone and even Battlefield V is planning a Battle Royale mode. But the one that took us all by surprise was Electronic Arts / Respawn's free-to-play Battle Royale, Apex Legends.

It was pretty much just announced out of the blue. It is based in the universe of the Titanfall series, which is one of Respawn's most critically acclaimed titles. Apex Legends got over 2 million players in its first day alone. As of today, 10 million players have been playing the game and the game has broken past 1 million concurrent players in just a period of 72 hours, according to EA.

Of course, it has only been some 4 days since the title was released. We don't even know how many players we'll see this weekend! It does not look like it will be able to compete with Fortnite, considering how profitable it has been and it has a larger target demographic (i.e, kids).

But it does look like Apex Legends has a strong case against PUBG, Blackout, Danger Zone and others. They may not be able to get the mobile market like PUBG has unless Respawn makes a mobile app themselves. Like Fortnite, there is no pay to win elements and the transactions players make is purely cosmetic. It is also free!

Respawn has mentioned that they are looking to add cross-play elements soon, as well as adding a Battle Pass which may give players more incentive to purchase loot boxes. What really stands out is being able to revive your allies, pinging items you need so that your allies can give you as well as a smooth online experience with low pings.
