Mindseye was meant to be a big deal — a bold, open-world game that drew early Cyberpunk 2077 comparisons. But just like Cyberpunk in 2020, it launched in rough shape, filled with bugs, broken systems, and major performance issues. The “Mostly Negative” Steam rating says it all. With no early review copies and mounting complaints, Build A Rocket Boy is now in damage control. Can the game turn things around like Cyberpunk 2077 did?

Yes, but only if the developers commit to real fixes, steady updates, and honest community support. Let's look more into it.

What exactly happened with MindsEye that makes it resemble Cyberpunk 2077?

In my previous article, I mentioned that many players reported serious problems that affected playability. On top of that, major red flags popped up before launch, including the lack of early review copies. That led to speculation, and unfortunately, the issues confirmed people’s doubts.

Shortly after release, players found glitches everywhere: floating vehicles, NPCs behaving abnormally (stretching limbs), and stuttering performance even on high-end systems. It got so bad that even planned promotional streams, like the one with streamer CohhCarnage, were cancelled by the developer at the very last moment, while he was getting ready to go live.

To be fair, Cyberpunk 2077 launched in worse shape than anyone expected back in 2020. It was glitchy, broken, and clearly unfinished. But CD Projekt Red did the work. Over the next few years, it pushed countless patches, fixed performance on every platform, and eventually delivered Phantom Liberty — a DLC that helped solidify the game’s comeback story.

At the time of writing, Cyberpunk 2077 sits with over 18,000 “Very Positive” reviews and a consistent player base, with around 18,557 players online right now and a 32,986 peak in the last 24 hours, per SteamDB.

What Mindseye has to do now

If Mindseye wants a chance at redemption, it must stem the bleeding immediately. Here are a few options for how:

  1. Own the mess – Build A Rocket Boy needs to come out clean, no dodging. Address what went wrong, tell players what’s being fixed, and be specific with timelines.
  2. Patch the game, not the PR – All the tweets and apologies in the world won’t matter if the game still crashes every five minutes. Major updates need to roll out soon.
  3. Talk to the players – The developers can’t sit silent. The players want updates, patch notes, and some form of communication that proves they’re being heard.
  4. Find what’s worth saving – If there’s anything about the game that works — be it the setting, story beats, or certain gameplay mechanics — lean into those. Let people see the good behind the mess.
  5. Show the roadmap – Redemption doesn’t happen in silence. The studio needs to put out a real plan with post-launch support, expansions, or something that says: “We’re not giving up.”

Is redemption possible?

Yes, but it depends on how the studio handles the next few months. Mindseye is off to a rough start, and it’ll take time to repair its reputation. But it’s not impossible — Cyberpunk 2077 proved that.

Build A Rocket Boy will need to put in consistent effort, avoid making promises they can’t keep, and make the game stable and enjoyable for players who gave it a shot. Only then can the game earn back trust and maybe follow the same recovery path that Cyberpunk 2077 did.
