Destiny is the largest new franchise launch in history of Activision

Activision and Bungie’s collaborative video game Destiny has been recorded to be having the highest launch of all the video game franchises in the recent days.”Destiny's launch was the largest of any new franchise in history and one of the top ten video game launches of all time”, said Activision on an earnings call today. The game made $500 million USD in generated revenue. Destiny is a large part of Activision's record results in Q3 2014.

Destiny 2 is already in development, as Destiny reaches 9.5 million users .The Action role-playing, first-person shooter game featured in the top 10 of largest game launches in the US and also tops UK charts from the past few weeks. That’s reflected in the publisher’s revenue for the third quarter, which totals $753 million (it’s biggest quarter ever), and sees a massive increase over the same period last year ($691 million).

Activision have stated that they have been working on the future expansion content for the game. ”Work has also begun on future expansion packs as well as on our next full game release," said Eric Hirshberg, Activision's Publishing CEO. "We're very pleased with the launch and continuing engagement."

]Last year, Rockstar's "Grand Theft Auto V" made a huge $1 billion in three days. Granted, that game was a sequel in a successful franchise. Bungie's "Halo 2" made a reported $125 million in first day sales. But Destiny has overpowered them all.
