The main event of the Chongqing Major started today with a bang with Vici Gaming (VG) and Team Liquid getting eliminated and later in the day Virtus Pro (VP) advanced to the Grand Finals for the second consecutive time this season.

Series 1: Vici Gaming (VG) vs Evil Geniuses (EG)

The first match of the main stage saw the Chinese team take on the North American favorites.

The first game in the series saw VG winning on the back of an amazing Juggernaut performance by Paparazi (16/1/9 K/D/A) and punishing the anti-mage pick of EG by playing a high tempo game which the NA team was unable to keep up with.

The second match, arguably one of the best match this major saw 44 deaths on each team and was played for 58 minutes.

EG won the match finally on account of some questionable buybacks decisions made by the Chinese team and due to all three cores of EG coming online later in the game.

The third game was closed within 37 minutes by EG, after a somewhat roller-coaster start after which the surprise pick Phantom Lancer became too difficult for VG to kill.

With this loss, VG took the 7th-8th place for the second consecutive major and will take home $40000 and 450 DPC points.

Series 2: Fnatic vs Team Liquid

The second series saw Team liquid, who were without their main carry Miracle against the SEA squad Fnatic.

While the first game saw the European team lose to Fnatic on the back of a spectacular performance on the Medusa of their mid player Abed, the second game saw the team from SEA winning with a flawless performance from their carry MP on his Juggernaut with a K/D/A of 13/0/6.

This meant that Team Liquid would exit their first major with a 7th-8th placement, $40000 and 450 DPC points.

Series 3: Virtus Pro (VP) vs Team Secret

This series was a replay of the upper bracket and Grand finals of the previous major with the 2 best teams of this season locking horns against and living up to the expectations of the crowd by providing some intense action with VP finally taking the series 2-1.

The first game saw Secret bringing out a lineup of 5 melee heroes surprising most of the analysts on board, but Secret defied all expectations and won the game by turning around what seemed to be a game that was VP's to take on the back of some amazing teamwork.

This didn't deter VP who came back strong in the second game with a very well rounded draft with a Magnus and Anti-Mage pick, moving the series to the deciding game. The third game unlike the other two was much more one-sided with VP dominating with an Io Luna combination with "Ramze6666" on his Luna having an 8/0/17 game.

Both the teams will be playing on Sunday, 27 Jan with VP eyeing for another title and Secret vying for a chance at the grand finals and revenge against VP.
