Although goalkeepers are usually underrated in FIFA, we know that agile shot-stoppers are the most important addition that one can make to their teams. While there are plenty of great goalkeepers in FIFA 18, having one of the best is sure to give you an upper-hand in winning those intensely fought matches.
EA Sports have revealed the FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) best goalkeepers of all time, and the German beast who plays for Bayern Munich, Manuel Neuer, has come in third on that list.
This has come as a surprise to many football followers and specially Neuer's fans, because the German goalkeeper is renowned for his insane reflexes and dives, which are quick as lightning. Neuer's ratings stand at 92 with his diving rated at 91 and reflexes at 89. It's pretty fast, to be honest.
The goalkeepers who have transcended even Neuer's ratings are legends in their own right -- Lev Yashin and Peter Schmeichel.
Lev Yashin was a Soviet-Russian goalkeeper, who was known for his athleticism, stature, and acrobatic reflexes. Often called the "Black Spider", Yashin was one of the greatest, and there are very few others to make as huge an impact as he did, in the game of football. Yashin's FUT rating stands at 95, with his diving at 95 and reflexes as high as 96.
Peter Schmeichel is the other goalkeeper who has overtaken Manuel Neuer. The Manchester United legend was voted the International Federation for Football history and Statistics (IFFHS) World's Best Goalkeeper in 1992 and 1993. He captained United to the treble in 1999, winning the UEFA Champions League, Premier League and the FA Cup. He also won the Euro in 1992 with Denmark. Schmeichel's FUT 18 ratings stand at 92, the same as Neuer, but Schmeichel aces Neuer with his diving and reflexes, rated 92 and 94 respectively.
Although it goes without saying that Manuel Neuer is the best goalkeeper in the current crop of players, EA Sports has done a noble job by reviving the legends of old. It goes to remind that no matter how great the new players are, the impact that legends like Lev Yashin and Peter Schmeichel have had on the game of football, is huge.
