GTA 6: Why a late release date is good for fans as well as Rockstar

Every release in the GTA franchise is nothing short of a global event, with the entire fanbase having waited for, typically, years for a Grand Theft Auto game. In the past, Rockstar Games has made a quick turnaround with its games and released them in quick succession.

The release dates for GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas were reasonably quick, with barely a year or two between these titles' releases. To put that into perspective, from 2001 to 2004, Rockstar put out three games!

From 2005 to 2008, Rockstar only released GTA 4 (with 2 DLC expansions), which is a significant drop-off. However, what fans must remember is that the publisher and its studios work on multiple projects, perhaps even simultaneously.

Time and time again, the gaming industry has seen that a game rushed in development comes out half-baked, much to the chagrin of the fanbase. Therefore, the longer GTA 6 stays in development, the better it will be.

Eliminating crunch periods with an extended development period for GTA 6

AAA game development has proven to be a very precarious tight-rope act, with studios needing to manage expectations and deliver on time. As a result, "crunch culture" has become an exceedingly worrisome issue in the gaming industry.

Crunch essentially means that employees are required to work in an extremely stressful work environment, as studios push to meet the release date. Working overtime and perhaps not being compensated enough, feeling the crunch is seen as one of the biggest criticisms faced by Rockstar.

Therefore, the longer the developmental period GTA 6 has, the better it will be for the studios' work culture. In a report by Kotaku, the American company explained that it had been hard at work revamping the work culture.

Not only does the long development period help the studio, but the fanbase will also be treated to an overall better game with GTA 6. It is difficult to imagine players finally getting their hands on GTA 6, which then turns out to be a disappointment.

While everyone would love for GTA to make a return as soon as possible, many other factors also must be weighed in.
