Hearthstone Standard Rotation: The 5 Best Cards Warlock Will Lose From Arena in Blizzard's Card Game

Warlock in Hearthstone is currently the best class in Arena, at a 53% win rate. Warlock has the best Hero Power and you can draw into the perfect answer or refill your hand when you need it.

Warlock also has a variety of hard clears and AOE cards which also helps them have a bigger advantage over other classes. Warlock does pretty well in Constructed and it will lose some great cards from the Standard Rotation cycle in 2019.

The cards from Journey to Un'Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throne and Kobolds & Catacombs will leave Arena too. Here are the best ones Warlock will lose from its pool.

#5. Defile

Expansion: Knights of the Frozen Throne

Defile is one of the best-designed cards in the game. It is not overly powerful but it can be extremely powerful should there be enough minions with an ascending sequence. It is not as strong in Arena as it is in Constructed, because you may lose your own minions and it is harder to set up.

Nonetheless, it is a strong board clear for Warlock. Until Lord Godfrey came around and took the throne. Defile is a rare and Godfrey is a legendary, so it won't be missed all that much.

#4. Kobold Librarian

Expansion: Kobolds & Catacombs

Kobold Librarian is just as strong in Arena as it is in Constructed. It is cheap, offers card draw with a fairly statted body for a 1-drop. In case you already used your Hero Power to draw, Kobold Librarian can help you gain that extra draw and still have mana leftover for you to spend.

Even on turn 1, it can be pretty strong as it can trade efficiently into other one or two drops, due to it having 2 damage. The 2 damage to your face is not that big a drawback either, in fact, it could be helpful sometimes.

#3. Vulgar Homunculus

Expansion: Kobolds & Catacombs

Vulgar Homunculus is strong at 2-mana. It has the stats of a 3-drop and the card is powerful enough at that early stage. It is a little less impactful in the late game, but it is still a Taunt. Vulgar Homunculus is also a Demon, which synergizes with many of Warlock's Demon related cards.

It has the same stats as Lone Champion or Hot Spring Guardian. The 2 damage is not a huge drawback either.

#2. Voidlord

Expansion: Kobolds & Catacombs

Voidlord is a card that has so many stats attached to it, especially health. In Constructed, it can be slow to play Voidlord on turn 9 but it can be a strong defence mechanism in Arena. Other taunts such as Giant Mastodon have 10 health, but Voidlord has 9 health and its Deathrattle gives it 9 more health.

Voidlord will be a solid loss for Warlock, unless it gets an equally powerful Taunt.

#1. Despicable Dreadlord

Expansion: Knights of the Frozen Throne

Despicable Dreadlord is cheaper than a Dread Infernal and doesn't deal damage to your face or your own minions. AOE effects have a lot of value in Arena and even more so if you can clear small/token minions. That's why Dragonmaw Scorcher and Dread Infernal are so highly rated right now.

While Warlock has a lot of board clear effects, Despicable Dreadlord is the best-rated card from the 2017 sets according to Heartharena. He will be missed.

Honourable Mentions

Shroom Brewer

Expansion: Kobolds & Catacombs

Shroom Brewer is a really good heal and exactly the one Warlock needs. Although this is a Neutral card, most Warlock heals such as Dark Pact are pretty useless in Arena. Warlock takes so much damage from its cards and Shroom Brewer can help you stay alive, even if it's just a little bit.

Stonehill Defender

Expansion: Journey to Un'Goro

Stonehill Defender is a solid card on its own, but it allows Warlock to Discover Voidlords, Rin, Vulgar Homunculus and many powerful Warlock class Taunts. It is extra strong in Warlock just like it is in Paladin, Warrior and Shaman.

Lesser Amethyst Spellstone

Expansion: Kobolds & Catacombs

The Spellstone for Warlock can be upgraded to be a massive removal and a huge heal for Warlock. It is easy for Warlock to take damage from its cards especially with the large number of cards that do self-inflicting damage on Warlock.

If you upgrade it to its final form, dealing 7 damage and gaining 7 life is the best value you can get from any spell from Warlock. A heal/removal this large will be missed.

Hooked Reaver

Expansion: Kobolds & Catacombs

The 4 mana 7/7 memes came back with this card. Hooked Reaver isn't too great as a 4/4, but the value of a 7/7 taunt for so cheap is much bigger in Arena. It can be potentially life-saving because of the high amount of health the card has while giving you extra mana to spend recovering your board. It is much stronger in Arena compared to Constructed.
