How to escape the mimic in FNAF Secret of the Mimic

Secret of the Mimic throws you into a scary chase where classic FNAF fear meets clever stealth gameplay. One of your first big encounters is with The Mimic — a creepy animatronic that starts stalking you early in the game. It appears shortly after restoring power and opening a metal gate with a Hand Crank. If you're not quick, your journey could end almost as soon as it begins.

Escaping the mimic in FNAF Secret of the Mimic

After restoring power and picking up the Crank from the Inventory system, you must open a folding gate. Doing so triggers the Mimic’s dramatic entrance — bursting out of a wooden crate while wearing a creepy Elephant costume.

At this moment, don’t hesitate and run immediately. Turn around and make a right, then another right to find a locker. Jump in fast and stay hidden. You’ll hear the Mimic’s footsteps grow louder or quieter depending on how close it is. There are two methods you can use after that:

Using distractions

After hiding, wait for the Mimic to move away. Once it’s not directly nearby, you can activate a nearby speaker standee (a cardboard cutout) to play music. This will lure the Mimic toward it. The second you trigger the speaker, get back into the locker.

When the Mimic walks past your hiding spot toward the sound, that’s your chance. Exit the locker, loop back around to where it originally broke out, and approach the door that requires the Data Diver to open. Use the device, slip through, and you’re safe in the Main Hallway.

Wind-Up mice

If you prefer a more tactical approach, try using the Wind-Up Mice near the security office. These act as mobile distractions. Wind one up and toss it to pull the Mimic’s attention away from your path. Be careful, though — they don’t travel far, so plan your route wisely and don’t throw it blindly.

You can also return to the security office, wait for the Mimic to leave the area, and then sneak your way back to the Main Hallway door when it’s safe.

As a general rule in FNAF Secret of the Mimic, any room with an Inventory terminal or behind a Data Diver door is a safe zone. Escaping the Mimic might seem scary at first, but with quick reflexes and smart use of distractions, you can outsmart it easily.
