Alan Wake 2, the upcoming survival-horror game from Remedy, is scheduled to be released in just a few days. Coming from the studio that created some of the most memorable games ever, like Max Payne, Quantum Break, and Control, the upcoming Alan Wake sequel is easily one of the most hotly anticipated titles of 2023.

Although the original Alan Wake, released in 2010, featured horror elements in its gameplay and story, it wasn't built as a survival-horror experience. With the sequel, Remedy aimed to tap purely into the supernatural horror element of the narrative, ditching the action-focused aspect of the previous title for a survival-horror experience.

With the game's looming release date, Remedy recently laid out details about the pre-order and PC specifications. Unsurprisingly, much like their previous titles, Alan Wake 2 will be available in multiple editions. While most players will gravitate towards the $60 Standard Edition, some might wonder whether the $70 Deluxe Edition is worth pre-ordering.

What does Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition offer?

Alan Wake 2 is scheduled to be released on October 27, 2023, with the Standard Edition priced at $50 on PC and $60 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Deluxe Edition, on the other hand, costs $70 and $80 on PC and current-gen consoles, respectively.

Here's a complete breakdown of both the editions, as well as the bonuses included with them.

Standard Edition ($50/$60)

  • Base game
  • Pre-order bonuses

Deluxe Edition ($70/ $80)

  • Base game
  • Pre-order bonuses
  • Expansion Pass
  • Night Springs Expansion (additional story content)
  • Lake House Expansion (additional story content)
  • Nordic Shotgun Skin for Saga
  • Crimson Windbreaker for Saga
  • Celebrity Suit for Alan
  • Parliament Shotgun Skin for Alan
  • Lantern Charm for Saga

The pre-order bonuses included with the game feature exclusive weapon skin for Alan as well as a small survival resource pack for Saga.

Should you pre-order Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition?

For most players, it is best to stick with the Standard Edition if you don't want to invest the additional $10 on a game that's essentially a single-player survival-horror adventure. However, if you do plan on playing the title for a long time and want the complete package with early access to future DLC expansions, the Deluxe Edition is a perfect choice.

It should be mentioned that the Deluxe Edition bonuses and the expansions are bound to be released as individual bundles post-launch. As such, even if you get the Standard Edition, you will be able to get your hands on the Deluxe Edition bonuses later.

Alan Wake 2 is Remedy's first title that will be released exclusively for current-generation consoles and PCs. Built on the studios' proprietary Northlight engine, the sequel to Alan Wake is easily one of the most visually stunning games out there, especially on high-end PCs. However, the visuals do come at the cost of very high system requirements.
