New Plague Tale game announced at Xbox Games Showcase 2025

The Xbox Games Showcase 2025 event started with the announcement of a new Plague Tale installment. However, it is a spin-off that is focused on a side character from the second mainline entry in the series. The title will be set 15 years before Requiem. Furthermore, the trailer shown at Xbox Games Showcase 2025 also implies a deviation from the stealth gameplay the franchise is known for.

A new Plague Tale title called Resonance announced at Xbox Games Showcase 2025

As mentioned, Resonance will be set 15 years before A Plague Tale: Requiem. It will follow a young Sophia, the smuggler who helped Amicia and Hugo enter La Cuna in the second game, Requiem.

Resonance will take place on Minotaur's Island, where you try to uncover the mysteries of the same region. Time in the game will shift between the Middle Ages and Ancient Minoa, with your actions in the past affecting the future.

As seen from the many shots of the trailer shown at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, something deadly is chasing Sophia. Thus, similar to the rats you had to dodge from the previous installments, you'll need to avoid contact with an unkillable army in the spin-off.

However, instead of the stealth-focused gameplay of the mainline installments, Resonance will concentrate on combat. The title is being developed by Asobo Studio, which also developed the previous entries in the series.

Chief Creative Officer David Dedeine of the development team said the following regarding their new direction for Resonance:

"We wanted to expand and explore the world of A Plague Tale with a character — Sophia — that is very close to our heart, but within a much more action-oriented experience. This fresh approach comes with intuitive and rewarding combat, as well as a brand-new manifestation of the Macula, the ancient evil. Resonance embraces themes, places, and eras that we had never explored before."

Resonance is set to release for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 in 2026. Furthermore, it will be available on day one on Xbox Game Pass.
