The genre of action-adventure is a hybrid. It is a video game genre that combines elements from both action and adventure games. It borrows many of the physical skills from action games, but action-adventures also include a compelling storyline, multiple characters, an inventory system, dialogue, and other features most commonly used in adventure games. As a result, action-adventure games challenge both combat and problem-solving abilities in varying circumstances.


The gameplay is more frantic than pure adventure games. The player controls a single avatar as the protagonist in most action-adventure games. The games can be broadly classified into, first-person action-adventure, third-person action-adventure, platform-adventure games, stealth games, and survival games.
