Nintendo cryptically teases "Emio," possibly a horror game for Nintendo Switch

Out of the blue, Nintendo has dropped a cryptic teaser titled Emio. With the hashtag #WhoIsEmio on X, the Super Mario company also shared a YouTube link leading to a short teaser featuring a man with a paper bag with a smiley face over his head. All of this is encapsulated by eerie music in the background

This has resulted in mass speculation from fans, including everything from a brand-new IP to Nintendo Switch 2 news. Here's what we know so far.

The 15-second-ling teaser ends with Japanese text that translates to "smiling man," referring to the masked individual in the footage. There is also a link by Nintendo Japan featuring the creepy man seen in the trailer. Since the URL has "switch" in it, we believe it is a video game project for their current console.

It will likely be an IP or project for mature audiences. As such, fan speculation about a new Luigi's Mansion, new Eternal Darkness, and other bizarre theories seems unfounded. Whatever the case is, this is most unusual for the family-friendly company known for titles like Super Mario, Pokemon, and Nintendo Switch Sports.
