RGG Studio is all set to give a new IP to the world with Stranger Than Heaven, previously called Project Century. The game is set in 1943s Japan, quite a far cry from the modern-day setting of The Yakuza and Judgement series. The city also looks like a familiar location where fans of RGG Studio's work have visited before, the Dotonbori district of Osaka.
Previously called Project Century, RGG Studio initially revealed the game in a teaser trailer during the Game Awards 2024 ceremony. Now, during the Summer Game Fest 2025, the project has been officially named, alongside a slight look into the gameplay.
Similar to other RGG Studio projects, the formerly called Project Century will follow a new protagonist, who, from the glimpses we got from the trailer, appears to be some kind of detective. From the looks of it, the game will also feature choices that might affect the story.
The combat looks like it has been overhauled to feature a beat-em-up style action battle system focusing on 1v1 fights over the Studio's established one-man army formula. Crowds might also play a crucial role, as it was showcased in the trailer that you can be pushed back by pedestrians running away from danger.
No release date was given, but it is likely that the studio will release the game in 2026.
