A new raid will be coming to Pokemon Go starting 29 January 1 PM PST / 11.30 AM IST which will feature the Generation IV Legendary Pokemon, Palkia. The announcement was not made on Twitter or Niantic's website, it was only announced through the mobile app.

The Palkia raid will be available till 28 Feb 2019, so you have all of February to try and catch it. Palkia is a Water + Dragon type dual Pokemon and it is one of the strongest and most resistant types that are available. Its type is similar to Kingdra, and it can only be weakened by Fairy and Dragon types.

Palkia is the mascot Pokemon in the Generation IV Nintendo DS Game Pokemon Pearl. The other mascot, Dialga is the mascot of Pokemon Diamond released together with Pearl. Together, Palkia and Dialga represented the Pokemon that created Space and Time and were found in the Sinnoh region. Dialga is not yet available in the Pokemon Go client yet and we don't know when Niantic will make Dialga available.

Capturing Dialga would have probably made this raid a lot easier, since Dialga is a Dragon + Steel-type and counters Palkia much more easily. We don't have too much information on CP and how Palkia's abilities will play out, but we will find out slowly as the month goes by. But now is your chance to add it to your Pokedex.

Pokemon Go recently had an event which featured Hoenn legendaries Kyogre and Groudon in raids, along with a shiny Taillow and Zigzagoon. Pokemon Go also slowly added Generation IV Sinnoh Pokemon to its roster since November so it seems like the spotlight is shifting from Hoenn Pokemon to Sinnoh Pokemon.

Although weirdly enough, there are still a handful of Hoenn Pokemon that needs to be added in the game.
