Rumour: Kingdom Hearts III could have an online mode

Kingdom Hearts III will be available for the Xbox One and PS4

Kingdom Hearts III could be getting a new online/co-op feature. According to a recent job listing on their official career website, Square Enix now has an opening in their Osaka branch. Apart from the general technical assistance duties, the job description also includes a sentence about being “constantly online”. Here is a translation of the job description posted by Square Enix:

“In charge of general technical assistance (workflow construction, selection of middleware etc) in Implementing the high quality graphic expression or Kingdom Hearts III. In charge of construction duties for a shader on the game engine for nature representations (water, rain, snow etc) and special effects (magic etc) etc, constantly online games.”

This will be a unique development for the Kingdom Hearts series, which has so far been a single player game. But it’s important to note that most RPG games are not suited for online gameplay for several reasons. And an online mode in Kingdom Hearts III does sound a bit difficulty, since there are a limited number of characters to choose from, besides Sora, Goofy and Donald Duck. Keeping that in mind, it will be interesting to see how the development team will implement the new online mode.

I guess we will just have to wait and see how this turns out. Kingdom Hearts III is rumoured to arrive later this year for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Kingdom Hearts fans can check out the teaser trailer for the game here.
