Hi-rez Studios has announced Smite 2 as a standalone sequel to their flagship free-to-play MOBA. Debuting as a playable Alpha this year, the latest entry will bring its world of warring Gods and action-packed MOBA gameplay to a new generation of consoles. The game will be available on PC, Steam Deck, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 with cross-play features.

The original Smite was a pioneering third-person MOBA released ten years ago, and developers do not plan to pull the plug on it yet. Rather than forcing a player base migration, developers are confident in letting the sequel garner its own reputation.

Other than the shiny new coat of paint that is Unreal Engine 5, these improvements include systemic changes and additions that will facilitate more layers of strategy and creativity.

Not all of the 100+ Gods from the first game will be available on the sequel during release, but the developers plan to eventually port over the entire roster.

Smite 2 release period: When is the game coming?

Hi-rez Studios has yet to announce a timeframe for the full release of Smite 2. However, a cross-console playable Alpha test is slated for a Spring 2024 release.

The developers unveiled the sequel during the keynote address on the opening day of Smite World Championship 2024. Alongside the reveal trailer showing off the Unreal Engine 5, the pipeline for a Smite 2 pro scene has also been disclosed.

Dubbed the "Smite 2 Founders Series," the pro circuit for this year promises to bring multiple in-person LAN events for the sequel.

Can cosmetics from Smite 1 be carried over to the sequel?

Developers have not disclosed any information on cosmetic item migration from your Smite 1 inventory to the sequel. Furthermore, most cosmetic content for the first game released before Year 11 will not be recreated for the latest entry.

However, a new Legacy Pass DLC for Smite brings promises of cross-generation skin obtainable for both entries, as well as further Divine Legacy progress for Year 11.
