No plans from Sony to re-release other God of War games for PS4

God of War III will be releasing for the PS4 on July 14th

Last week, Sony had announced that a remastered version of its 2010 PS3 title God of War III will now be making its way to the PlayStation 4. But the company does not have any plans of re-releasing the rest of the God of War trilogy for the PS4.

In one of his comments on the PlayStation blog, Sony Santa Monica Community Strategist Aaron Kaufman confirmed that there are “no plans for others in the franchise to bring over”. This makes God of War III the only game in the franchise to have a PlayStation 4 release so far. As for why they are porting older PS3 games for the PS4, Kaufman explained that it was for those who did not get to try out the game when it first released:

We hear you and that’s OK, remasters often help us open the door to new players who perhaps did not play God of War 3 5yrs ago, but who we can bring it to on the PlayStation 4. People often forget, the more players we can bring into a franchise, the better for everyone. At Santa Monica Studio, we’d like as many PlayStation fans to experience our games as possible, form generation to generation.

So players who have never played God of War games before will now have a chance to do so on the PS4 at 1080p/60 fps. Given that the God of War games are a PlayStation exclusive series, many Xbox 360 owners who have now purchased a PlayStation 4 will finally have a shot at playing the game.

Also Sony’s decision to port the game for the PS4 could possibly indicate that a new God of War game is in development. The God of War III remaster will help them rein in new fans for the franchise.

God of War III Remastered is slated to arrive on July 14th, in the US and on July 17th in the UK.
