The Outer Worlds: New information regarding quests, choices, locations and companions revealed

The Outer Worlds
The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds is shaping up to be the Fallout game we never got. Developed by the original creators of Fallout and Fallout: New Vegas, The Outer Worlds seems to be taking all the good things from that series and making something totally new as well as sticking to its old school roots, something which the fans of the role-playing genre have been wanting for a long time now.

Fortunately for us, PlayStation revealed a hour long brand new footage of the game, showcasing an early quest, two new companions, some sick weapons as well as a brand new location never been seen before.

Here is all the new information that was revealed via the above gameplay footage:-

#1 New Quest

The new gameplay footage showcases an early level quest where the game's silent protagonist wants to power up his/her ship. It's a lengthy mission which takes one from point A to B and then to C.

The quest starts off in Saltuna Cannery where a character called Reed Tobson (who strangely resembles the Vault-Tec Guy from Fallout 4 of the Spacers Choice sends you on a mission to cut off power supply from a nearby Plant House and redirect it towards the ship. It seems like a simple mission but there's a lot going on here.

#2 New location

Emerald Vale

In this footage, we see a brand new location called Emerald Vale.

Exploring at night time, Emerald Vale is a drop-dead gorgeous place with auroras shining in the night sky and a bizarre volcano in the background. The outskirts of this small town are filled with Marauders who seems more like the raiders from the original Fallout games.

Aside from the open wild spaces of Emerald Vale, we also get to explore a creepy old plant house as well as a geothermal plant.

#3 New Companion

The new gameplay also provides us with a first look at an Indian companion called Parvati.

Parvati can be found in the Saltuna Cannery while talking to Reed Tobson, a young girl who for some reason carries around wrenches, diagonsticators, hairpins and engine tape.

Not much is known about Parvati's special skills but her basic attacks boil down to smacking people with a hammer-like weapon from behind which does a lighting attack of some kind and knocks people out.

Other than Parvati, we also get introduced to a new companion called Nyoka. Nyoko's basic attack is raining bullets all over the enemies with a machine gun which is pretty cool.

What shows off Obsidian's real commitment to making this game a true RPG is the level of interaction one can have with these companions during the quests.

In the quest where the main character was about to shut down the power for the town for Emerald Vale people, Parvati interrupted and delivered a believable, convincing statement to completely flip off the mind of the players.

Such kinds of interruptions are good as they provide a sense that one's companions have a personality and an opinion of themselves as well, something which has become uncommon in the so-called role-playing games these days,

#4 Choices

The Outer Worlds
The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds has intricately designed dialogue options that branch off to multiple story scenarios depending upon the choices you take.

Obsidian has been emphasizing this fact since day one that The Outer Worlds is not a sprawling open-world RPG but a smaller, more contended experience with more attention given to its RPG mechanics and to be honest, one won't be disappointed.

The obvious nod to Obsidian's previous works such as Fallout: New Vegas and even Pillars of Eternity here because the game's offering so much substance when its choices and decisions, in other words, there are true RPG elements, which means real choices and consequences.

The quest we undertake on the gameplay footage is a clear indication of what to expect from The Outer Worlds. What's interesting is that making decisions in this game won't be a piece of cake, as the game won't give you a morally good and bad decision to choose from, rather the choices will boil down to being morally grey no matter how you look at it.

Think you can handle all of that? Then The Outer Worlds is definitely for you.

#5 Reaction meter for quests

This is something Obsidian didn't have to do but they did because they are passionate about their games and want their players to have the best possible experience.

The primary quests in The Outer Worlds will have a reaction meter, ranging from neutral to positive and negative.

This is an incredible feature, because of which players will be more concerned and aware of the decisions they have been taking or the ones they should take in the future as it will change the course of the story as well as the NPC's they can interact with as the game progresses.

#6 Combat and Weapons

The Outer Worlds
The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds was always promised as a good RPG but Obsidian at one point of the development thought that combat is as much as essential in a game as the story and dialogues.

Hence the combat in The Outer Worlds feels really satisfying when compared to Fallout New Vegas or Fallout 4 which is a godsend.

What's more is that the game will offer some really incredible weapons such as an assault rifle with shock damage or a Sniper which makes oozing sound while it throws laser rounds into the enemy's face or a heavy machine gun that splatters everything that stands in its way.

Overall, combat in The Outer worlds feels good and there's plenty to look forward to there.
