NeoGAF user uncovers listing for special Gold and Silver Mario Amiibo

Wave 2 of rare silver and gold versions of Nintendo’s Amiibo

Just like a mythical unicorn sighting, it seems that some users have caught a glimpse of rare silver and gold versions of the Mario Amiibo. User KT$2448 has posted two images of what appears to be listings for special silver and gold versions of the Mario Amiibo from the Mario Party 10 collection. These listings have since been taken down. The images do look authentic enough but with no official information from Nintendo to back it up, it should be treated as just a rumour for now.

There is a chance that these special silver and gold Mario Amiibos are a mixed in with the Mario Party 10 shipment, or that they could be part of the Club Nintendo rewards. With Club Nintendo shutting down later this year, it is possible that these special Amiibos are included in the prizes that will be handed out to Gold and Platinum club members. This would be a great way for Nintendo to thank its fans for their loyalty over the years.

If these rumours turn out to be true, than the gold and silver versions are likely to become a rare collector ’s item. Amiibos has been a huge success with Nintendo fans and collectors alike, many of whom are still scrambling to buy the recently released Wave 3 figures. With Wave 4 slated to release sometime soon, fans have already been eager to pre-order the figures before it runs out.

On the downside, there is a possibility that these images could be a sham and there is no real gold and silver Amiibo to look forward to. There is also the possibility that these Amiibos do in fact exist, but Nintendo may choose to not release them. However, this is unlikely given the amount of hype these special Amiibos have already gathered from the fan base. Here’s hoping Nintendo confirms this information sometime soon.
