Now that the juggernaut of online tech review has announced that he is stepping down, many are wondering what he will do in the future.

In a video titled 'I'm stepping down,' Linus has laid down what comes next for him and the YouTube channel. People who frequent the tech side of YouTube, from hobbyists to buyers looking for reviews or recommendations, are sure to have come across Linus Tech Tips. With over 15 million subscribers on their main channel, they are one of the most popular brands on the platform.

Having started the channel in 2008, Linus has expanded his YouTube empire to multiple channels dedicated to specific areas, such as Techquickie, TechLinked, and ShortCircuit. As the founder and most prominent member of these channels, he has been instrumental in their growth, but therein lies the problem.

Linus said at the very start of the video:

"Most successful companies eventually outgrow the leadership of their founders and it looks like, my time is now."

It appears Linus wants to lay down the responsibility of managing the company, which has grown considerably in the last decade.

In the "why" section of the video, he said he is not cut out for the job:

"The truth is I was never really cut to be a CEO... I have a lot of weaknesses, and chief among them is that I just never really had the attention to detail or the tempermen to run an organization this large."

On that note, Linus revealed that he would be staying at Linus Media Group as a Chief Vision Officer, which will allow him to capitalize on things that he excels at, which is creating tech content. He said:

"My new role is the Chief Vision Offcier, which sounds like a stupid BS sounding made up role but I think it really is the best one... My gut and principles are what got us here today, so I am still going to be trotting the path that I think makes sense... But when it comes to the details about how to get there, I need some help."

The YouTuber then revealed the person he and his wife had chosen to replace him, and his name is Terren Tong. He was his old boss at NCIX and has had quite some experience in management at Corsair and Dell.

Tong will take over as CEO of the Linus Media Group from July 1, 2023.
