The Five Nights at Freddy's X Dead by Daylight chapter is finally dropping on June 17, 2025. After years of requests, Behaviour Interactive is adding FNAF to DBD as part of its ninth anniversary update. The collab brings one of the most well-known horror icons, Springtrap, into the fog.

Behaviour Interactive worked directly with FNAF creator Scott Cawthon to make sure this chapter hits the mark for both titles' fans. This article explores more about this collaboration.

The killer in this chapter is Springtrap, also referred to as “The Animatronic” in Dead by Daylight. He’s one of the most important characters in the series — a combination of serial killer William Afton and a broken bunny animatronic suit. This version of him is designed to stay true to what players remember from the games.

The team at Behaviour Interactive looked at how fans reacted to Springtrap in Let’s Play videos, studied his role in the lore, and used that to shape how he behaves in Dead by Daylight. They wanted him to feel both familiar and scary.

Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza is the new map

Alongside Springtrap, the chapter also includes a new map: Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. It’s based on the setting of the first FNAF game. The map includes details fans will recognize — like balloons, party tables, and that run-down restaurant feel.

Since DBD maps are usually more open, the devs had to find a way to balance that with FNAF’s tight, closed-in spaces. They used parts of the pizzeria’s layout —like the kitchen and dining area — to create chase paths and tension spots that feel right for both games.

For players who want to explore the new map without waiting for the random map cycle, the developer is adding a separate queue that focuses only on the Five Nights at Freddy's map. This makes it easier to try the new content right away.

Springtrap gets a movie skin

Springtrap also has a Yellow Rabbit legendary skin, based on his look in the Five Nights at Freddy's (2023) movie. The skin is voiced by Matthew Lillard, who played Afton in the film. It’s ideal for players who enjoyed the movie and want that version of the character in DBD.

Why this collab matters

Five Nights at Freddy's and Dead by Daylight have about the same age of developing their fan bases. Both series have found their way to their followers through YouTubers and streamers. They employ tension that horror relies on to hook players, and have significant fan bases who have requested a crossover long ago.

They were both in the right place to make a crossover happen, and it appears that the team spent time to make sure they were doing it right.
