The ninth match of the Big Bash League 2018-19 pits its most successful team, Perth Scorchers against the defending champions, Adelaide Strikers at the Optus Stadium, Perth. This Boxing Day clash is a much-awaited contest with both sides eager to get into winning ways after heartbreaking defeats in the previous round. Here are the playing XI updates for the match and also the picks for your Dream 11 sides.
Squads to pick from:
Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Jason Behrendorff, Hilton Cartwright, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kelly, Michael Klinger, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Joel Paris, Usman Qadir, Jhye Richardson, Ashton Turner, Andrew Tye, Sam Whiteman, David Willey
Wes Agar, Alex Carey, Michael Cormack, David Grant, Travis Head, Colin Ingram, Rashid Khan, Ben Laughlin, Jake Lehmann, Michael Neser, Liam O'Connor, Peter Siddle, Matt Short, Billy Stanlake, Cameron Valente, Jake Weatherald, Jon Wells, Nick Winter
Playing XI Updates:
Perth Scorchers: After back to back losses to Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder, Perth will be keen to open their tally against the Strikers. While Perth might field most of the players who had played against the Sixers, it is their batting that has been its downfall. Will Bosisto might be dropped for Josh Inglis to strengthen the batting. A shuffle at the top of the order is also possible with David Willey providing an option to open the batting.
Possible XI: Willey, Klinger, Whiteman(WK), Turner(C), Cartwright, Bosisto, Agar, Jhye Richardson, Coulter-Nile, Behrendorff, and Tye
Adelaide Strikers: After a hard-fought loss to the Renegades, do not expect the Strikers to make many changes to their side. With most of the squad settled and newcomer Short in fine form and Valente performing decently with the ball, Strikers should be fielding the same side for the third time in a row.
Possible XI: Carey(WK), Weatherald, Ingram(C), Short, Wells, Lehmann, Neser, Rashid, Valente, Laughlin, and Stanlake
Dream 11 Tips and Predictions:
Wicket-keeper: Alex Carey should be the ideal choice with the South Australian in good touch with the bat and his exceptional skills with the keeping gloves on make him a wonderful asset to the Strikers team.
Batsmen: Opening batsmen, Michael Klinger and Jake Weatherald are yet to score substantially for their respective sides and will be hopeful of a big score. Ashton Turner has garnered additional responsibility after Mitchell Marsh's inclusion into the Boxing Day Test against India and should come out of it with good performance while the same could be said of Colin Ingram who has to lead the side well in the absence of Travis Head. Hilton Cartwright is also another viable option to choose.
All-rounders: David Willey has underperformed in first two games and the Scorchers will be craving for a Willey special come Wednesday. Matthew Short has been in sublime form with the bat and could be an option to look into as well.
Bowlers: Rashid Khan's inclusion into any fantasy team is a no-brainer with the Afghan leg-spinner picking up wickets against the Renegades and Heat at regular intervals. Andrew Tye has always performed well on Boxing Day with the Aussie picking up a fifer last year against the Melbourne Stars at the W.A.C.A. Ben Laughlin and Nathan Coulter-Nile should round up the selection with their death bowling expertise giving them leverage over the rest. Jason Behrendorff's form could also be a major factor if chosen ahead of either of the two.
Captain: Michael Klinger has been a consistent performer for the Scorchers ever since he made the move for the Strikers and should be eager to get one up on them. David Willey is another option with the Englishman capable of destroying the opposition bowling and batting on his day.
