The AFC Cup 2018 continues as the teams head to matchday 5 of the group stages. There are two Indian teams in the competition and both of them will coincidently go up against each other.
Bengaluru FC will take on fellow Indian side Aizawl FC in what will be the sides fifth match in the AFC Cup 2018.
Bengaluru FC have been having a great 2017/18 season so far. The club, which was formed in 2012, has been growing continuously and now finds themselves right at the top of the Indian football pinnacle. The side from Bengaluru originally participated in the I-League, before switching to the Indian Super League for the 2017/18 season. In their debut ISL campaign, Bengaluru finished on top after the league stage, accumulating a total of 40 points in 18 matches. However, they went on to lose in the final to Chennaiyin FC.
Bengaluru did one better in the inaugural Indian Super Cup when they lifted the trophy, beating East Bengal in the final with a score of 4-1.
Aizawl FC, on the other hand, are having a season to forget. They finished 5th in the I-League and crashed out in the quarterfinals of the Indian Super Cup. Aizawl also couldn't progress in the AFC Champions League, losing to Iranian side Zob Ahan by three goals to one. Aizawl dropped down to the AFC Cup and have so far lost three of their group stage games while drawing one.
Aizawl FC are already eliminated from the competition but Bengaluru still have a chance to qualify for the next round. Bengaluru will need maximum points from this fixture in order to increase their chances to qualify for the next round.
Bengaluru is currently in second place on goal difference, behind Maldivian side New Radiant SC.
