The final game of the preliminary round of the Calcutta Premier Division was supposed to be played this afternoon at the Salt Lake Stadium between East Bengal Club and Prayag United SC, but Prayag United decided to hand a walkover to their rivals, as the team is in Pune to prepare for their I-League clash over the weekend against Mumbai FC.

The decision to hand the walkover was taken by the Prayag United SC management after the men in purple remained in western India following their clash with Sporting Clube de Goa on January 12, with no squad to play the inconsequential Calcutta Premier Division fixtures. But as there is nothing called a walkover, the IFA will have to decide what happens to this match and Prayag United SC.

The club stated in a press release:

“Prayag United SC already requested to IFA for re-arrange this last round Sahara Calcutta Football League – Premier Division Group-A clash against East Bengal Club on 21st or 22nd January ’13 but IFA could not avail to fix on that time.”

“So Club Officials decide and informed IFA and given a walkover to the opponents. It will surely help IFA to start the Sahara Calcutta Football League Championship Round and finish the League faster, specially it will be help to those team surely, who will go down second division this year but can’t play the matches only for finishing the round league.

“Prayag United SC truly apologies to our supporters and all Football lovers of the State and Our Country also. Prayag United SC on today take this step and sacrifice for the bigger interest of Football.”
